Training for Havering Sixth Form College

Anna Campbell, Psychology lecturer at Havering Sixth Form College and sessional tutor at Birkbeck and the Mary Ward Centre met with the APT STAIRS Project Manager, Sarah Sherman, last week. The meeting provided Anna with a face-to-face training session on Google Docs and to find out how the tool is being used in Bloomsbury. This is the first dissemination engagement we've had with a member of staff at an FE College - and it went really well. Anna went away with some thoughts on how she might use the tool to support her teaching.

Meeting with Sarah and discussing Google Docs was very thought provoking. Having an idea of how other educational establishments use Google Docs gave me some ideas. I have decided to pilot the use of GDs with my BTEC Foresic Science students. Their qualification is 100% coursework so I am often monitoring their work and giving feedback. Using GDs will allow me to do that more efficiently because I will be able to write comments directly into the document in a different text colour.
I also have six students that I class as at risk of failing based on their current attendance and work rate on the course. These are students whose work I could monitor more closely using GDs than I currently can. I can then intervene a bit earlier and hopefully give better support.
Thanks Sarah. I'll keep you posted with how it works
